Deliverable Description

Official Definition:
A description of a product's purpose, composition, derivation, and quality criteria.

Layman’s Definition:
A Deliverable Description explains what the thing you're making is, what it's made of, why it's needed, and how you'll know it's good enough.

Examples:
• IT: “A mobile app that allows users to log in, view statements, and make payments. Must work on iOS and Android.”
• Construction: “A four-storey car park with 150 bays, including 10 EV charging points and wheelchair access.”
• Healthcare: “A training manual for new triage procedures. Must be clear, concise, and approved by clinical governance.”

When to Use:
At a high-level, needs to be understood during project planning. At a more detailed level needs to be understood for the upcoming stage, sprint, or work package — helps ensure everyone’s clear on what’s being built and what ‘done’ looks like.

What It Might Look Like in Practice:
• Co-designed by project and stakeholders, forms part of a Work Package.
• Includes quality criteria, acceptance methods.
• Used to confirm scope and avoid rework.
