AKA: Sponsor

Official Definition:
The individual ultimately accountable for the project and responsible for ensuring that it meets its objectives and delivers value.

Layman’s Definition:
The Executive is the boss of the project — the person who owns it and makes sure it’s worth doing.

Examples:
• IT: CIO sponsoring a major system overhaul
• Construction: Senior developer overseeing a commercial build
• University: Associate Dean championing a new digital learning platform

When to Use:
Appointed during project start-up — stays involved throughout.

What It Might Look Like in Practice:
• Chairs the Project Board.
• Approves key decisions and funding.
• Owns the Business Case, ensuring the project is justified throughout the project.
