Corrective Action

Official Definition:
An action taken to bring the project back within agreed tolerances and constraints.

Layman’s Definition:
If the project starts to drift off track, Corrective Action is how you fix it — before it becomes a bigger issue.

Examples:
• Education: Hiring an extra trainer to catch up after a delivery delay.
• Construction: Replacing a supplier to stay within cost limits.
• IT: Removing low-priority features to finish on time.

When to Use:
When something is forecast to go outside tolerance but hasn’t yet — it’s proactive, not just damage control.

What It Might Look Like in Practice:
• Logged in project meeting minutes or Highlight Reports.
• Signed off by the appropriate level of authority.
• Could trigger an updated plan or Change Request.
